June 19, 2011 We ended up catching a few Jacks on Rapala Skitterwalks and the XRap walk 13 lures. The would only key in on the topwater commotion. June 18, 2011 May 23 2011 Trout and Redfish are very good bets when fishing around the spoil islands as well as the flats from Palm Bay to south of Sebastian Inlet. The topwater bite is great early morning and the action continues on soft plastics throughout the morning. Most of the trout are holding on the grass flats and spoil islands that are holding a lot of pinfish and mullet. Most of the Redfish have been mixed in with the mullet schools. The Reds we have been catching have been smaller rat reds with a few slot fish mixed in. Snook and flounder are also on the flats and around the seawalls and docks in the river. Fish soft plastics around the seawalls and rocky shorelines as well as mangrove shorelines and docks for both the snook and flounder. Fish topwater plugs early and late on the flats for the Snook. There are still some bluefish hanging around the flats and the activity inshore for the jacks has been sporadic. Ladyfish are mixed in with the mullet schools also. Saturday, I had the Space Coast Teen Anglers out and we boated over 40 trout as well as a few Redfish, Jacks and ladyfish in a few short hours. The bite was good most of the morning. The jacks are in the inlet and on the beach. Most fish around the 10lb mark with some bigger fish roaming the beach. Bonito and tarpon are around the bait pods as well as sharks. I haven’t seen big numbers of tarpon, but a few fish here and there. We also spotted a nice ray with 3 Cobia on Friday, but the ray went down quick once we saw it and we didn’t get a shot at the fish. Reds and Snook have been caught at night and some during the day at the inlet. The water has been crystal clear on incoming during the day and most of my catches in the inlet has been jacks. Dolphin fishing offshore was good this weekend. I headed out Sunday and boated 3 fish from 12-18lbs. We fished a slick in 95ft of water that had some action. We also lost a nice king mackerel at the boat as well as a dolphin in that same size range as the fish we boated. All of our fish came on live threadfins and pogies. A few boats struggled getting dolphin on Saturday, but managed a several bonito and a few sailfish. On Sunday after we trolled for Dolphin, we dropped croakers and threadfins to the bottom to see what we could find. We didn’t have any success, but some anglers have had good success with the grouper in the 50ft range all the way out 180ft. The ocean is calm and should remain calm through the summer. The water was also very clean close to shore and offshore. The clean water should help the bait and the fish stay close to shore making for a great summer of fishing the beach. The inshore bite north and south of the inlet continues to be strong for Trout, Redfish and Flounder with soft plastics producing as the sun gets high and Rapala Skitterwalks producing the best early in the morning and late. the top water bite has improved. Today, we caught quite a few trout to 4lbs, a big bluefish and some small redfish on Rapala Skitterwalks on a nice grassflat. Once the topwater bite slowed, we headed to the inlet and caught some mullet and headed offshore in search of Dolphin. It wasn’t long till we found and caught a bunch of schoolie dolphin on light tackle. We kept one at around 12lbs. May 5, 2011 Late April/early May has brought us some hot temps and excellent fishing despite the windy condtitions. The wind has been blowing all month making our fishing difficult, but we have been able to find productive areas to catch some good fish. Most of the fishing has been inshore for Trout, Redfish, Snook, inshore Grouper and Snapper along with some small black tip sharks and some big bull sharks and Tarpon in the Sebastian River due to the winds. If you want to catch some Sharks, head to the Sebastian River, Turkey Creek in Palm Bay or Crane Creek in Melbourne and you should get your fill. The sharks are thick in all of the creeks right now. The inshore bite on the flats north and south of the inlet has been good especially for Trout with soft plastics and subsurface baits have been producing the most Trout to 7lbs as well as some smaller redfish and flounder on the flats. Despite the mullet run being in full swing, the top water bite in April was slow for me. However, this first week of May, the top water bite has improved. Just yesterday, we caught quite a few trout to 4lbs and some small redfish on Rapala Skitterwalks on a nice grassflat with quite a few mullet late in the morning. I am really looking forward to the summer weather with the calm winds so we can get out on the beach and chase the tarpon and fish the inlet for the Reds and Snook. Trout, Ladyfish and Mangrove Snapper are in the Sebastian River hitting popping corks, topwaters and subsurface baits. The Pogies are still thick from Grant to the Inlet and the flats around the inlet have good numbers of Trout along with some Reds and Pompano. We have been getting a lot of the Pompano on the Lil Jon by Mirrolure and the Trout and Reds have been caught on Skitterwalks and the Lil Jon. March 20, 2011 Inshore has been good south of the inlet on the inlet flats, around the spoil islands and in the Sebastian River. We have been getting good numbers of Trout and Rat Reds on the flats along with some small Snook in the mangroves. The Sheephead and Grouper bite has been good in the inlet and the Mangrove Snapper are hitting on the oyster beds in the Sebastian River. March 19, 2011 We loaded up the Shoalwater and headed approximately 20 miles south from the Port around 8:30 to look for the bait pods and Rays just off the beach. We found pogies early and netted plenty for the day. I was a little nervous because the fleet of boats that was there all week was gone. That was good for us. Next round over the rockpile, I coached Nathan on hooking the fish and Mark hooked up with a big fish. Mark ended up breaking it off so we made another round. We went armed with Storm Swimming Eels, Williamson Banjo Eye Bucktails and Live Pinfish. The fish have been showing up late morning/early afternoon and they are on the rays pretty thick. February 28, 2011 February 25, 2011 February 23, 2011 It's good to see the Jacks back in the river. While they aren't the best eating fish, they are very agressive and provide a lot of action. Jack Crevalle grow to 30lbs and are a great fight on light tackle. The plan for today was for Captain Doug Kaska and myself to go out and catch a few Cobia and head deeper to see if we could get some Sailfish. The winds were supposed to be out of the NW at 5-10mph which isn't bad on a flats boat. However, the forecast was wrong. We had 10-15 out of the North and it switched to the NE later in the morning. February 17, 2011
Had an awesome trip with a father and son this last weekend. Dave is a captain in the marines that lives in Cali and his dad Vince lives in Maine. They were in Florida to visit Vince's dad. They have never fished together and wanted to get on the water for a special father son, day.
The fishing started slow, we fished ishore looking for trout, but had a hard time hooking up with any. We did find a few Bluefish to 5lbs which were a blast to catch on topwater, but the trout and Redfish were eluding us. As the sun came up we moved to the Sebastian river to look for tarpon. We found a few rolling, but not enough to stay back there. We then headed to the inlet and decided to see how the beach fishing was. The bait was there, but the gamefish seemed to be absent.
We ended finding a school of jack crevalle off the beach that was hungry. We ended up spending the remainder of the morning catching a bunch of jacks on Rapala Skitterwalks and live bait. They had a great time and loved the time spent together on the water.

Took the Space Coast Teen Anglers up to the Mosquito to work with the University of Central Florida and the Brevard Zoo to do a little oyster reef restoration.
The goal was to level some dead oyster bars that were washed up into mounds by waves and boat wakes. This was the hardest part of the job. We had to use pick axes, shovels and rakes to get the bars level in 95 degree heat.
Once the bars were leveled, we took oyster mats that are 18"x18" and made out of dead oyster shells zip tied to perforated plastic mats and placed them on the bottom. To keep the mats down, a cement donut was placed on each corner and we then zip tied the mats to the donuts. As the tide began to rise, we finished off by trimming the zip ties.
Within 6 months, new oysters will attach to our mats we placed down and continue to grow. The oysters will help filter the water and add more habitat and food for the Redfish, Trout and other fish species that inhabit the lagoon.

I have had a few trips out on the beach this week and we have been getting a lot of decent fish. Everything from Tarpon to Snook, Sharks, Cobia and more.
Snook are roaming the beaches with the bait pods as well as staging in the inlet and at the jetty at Sebastian Inlet. They are eating live Croakers and pinfish as well as threadfin herring. The Snook and Reds can also be caught on bucktail jigs in the inlet.
The bait pods are also holding decent numbers of Tarpon as well as sharks and the occasional Cobia. Earlier is better as the winds are picking up late morning.
Inshore, the trout and redfish bite is still good. We also have good numbers of flounder caught each week. The guys gigging flounder are having great success.
Headed out today with my son Jesse, his girlfriend Jennifer and her father Harry. We decided to fish off the beach and look for Tarpon. The Tarpon didn't show and the bait was nonexistent when running the beach. We did find a school of Jack crevalle that was very picky which is highly unusual. Must have been from the full moon a few nights ago!
After playing with the jacks for a little while, we headed a few miles offshore to a wreck and decide to see if we could find some bait. The cigar minnows were there and so where the Little Tunny and small sharks. We caught 4 Little Tunny, but couldn't get any fish off the bottom even thought he bottom was lit up on the Lowrance HDS.
After spending some time getting some bati and catching the False Albacore, we moved closer to Sebastian Inlet to look for more action. We hit an area with some scattered reef and caught a lot of Black Sea Bass. I was hoping for some Cobia and/or some King Mackerel or Dolphin, but the pelagics were't there.
Once we had some Sea Bass in the box, we decided to head in and see what we could find closer to home. We hit the beach north of Sebastian Inlet and found a huge school of Jack Crevalle. These fish were more eager to eat since we were later in the day. We ended up with several double and triple header hookups on topwater plugs.
All in all, it was a great day with a lot of action. What a way to spend fathers day than a day with the kids on the water with rods bent and fish in the box!!!
The Space Coast Teen Anglers got out to fish their June Event on Saturday the 18th. Thanks to Captain Terry Lamielle, Doug Kaska, Glyn Austin the teens spent the morning on the water in search ofTarpon, Trout Reds, Jack Crevalle and Sharks.
Unfortunately, because of the full moon, the Tarpon would not eat and were absent for the morning. But the teens spend the morning on the beach catching Jacks, and inshore catching the Reds, Trout and Sheephead.
It was a great day for all of the teens and they got some great prizes from Rapala, Storm, Bass Assassin, Reaction Innovations and more.
The winds finally laid down yesterday so we went outside the inlet and looked for some Tarpon, Cobia and King Mackerel. We did see a bunch of spinner Sharks jumping and hooked one, but he came unglued. We only saw one Cobia and it went down before we could get a bait in front of him but no Tarpon or Kingfish. We ended up catching 2 Bonito (False Albacore) while jigging the bait pods.
Nathan wanted to do a Cobia Charter for his birthday. Randy from Coastal Angler Magazine wanted me to take him and Captain Mark Wright out for Cobia for the Florida Sport Fishing Association vs Central Florida Offshore Anglers tournament. So we combined the trip and headed out of Port Canaveral around Saturday Morning.
We spent a little time looking for Rays and some free-swimmers around the bait pods and the light was low still so we headed offshore to a rockpile. We decided to drop down the pogies on Cobia jigs to see if they were home. Within 30 seconds of the first drop, Randy hooked his first Cobia. He fought the fish for around 15 minutes and we netted the fish. He took a break and Nathan, Mark and I dropped down again. I immediately hooked a fish and handed the rod to Nathan and he brought his first Cobia to the boat in short order.
Every drift over the rockpile resulted in a hooked fish. We spend 2 1/2 hours on our spot with non-stop action and landed 16 Cobia to 37lbs and lost around 10-15 fish, some Cobia and a couple of Jewfish. Every drift resulted in a hooked fish and we only caught one short fish. We decided to head in and beat the crowds back at the ramp.
Nathan ended up hooking and landing 6 Cobia to around 30lbs and broke off several more. He had a great birthday and is ready to go again.
Randy and Mark brought in their fish to the tournament and weighed in at 36 & 37lbs. We didn't catch the biggest Cobia for the tournament, but I would be willing to bet we caught more than the other boats on that day.
We each kept 1 fish for dinner and released 12 fish to catch another day.
I know it was my personal best on Cobia and a day we will all remember for a long time!
Time for a break this week to work with West Shore High School students in Melbourne Fl to teach them a little about fishing.
March 16, 2011
Captain Doug Kaska and I went out of Sebastian and Port Canaveral in search for Cobia the last couple of days. The fish are out there in force and so are the fishermen.
We caught fish on both live pinfish and the Banjo Eye Bucktail. On one ray we saw, I threw a live pinfish and Doug threw a Williamson Bucktail to the ray and we both hooked up. Doug lost his fish while mine stayed hooked up. I was using light rod loaded with 20lb Sufix 832 Braid and a 50lb Flourocarbon leader. After a 20 min battle with the fish trying to stay with the ray and the rest of the school, we boated a 38lb Cobia.
We saw several more rays with fish that day, but the boat traffic and anglers pushed the rays down. We did get a few more shots and Doug and landed a nice fish on the Williamson Banjoy Eye Bucktail.
We had our limit of one each in state waters and decided to target a few more fish for catch and release then head in for an early afternoon and beat all of the traffic as the anglers searched for their fish.
It was a great day on the water for a lot of anglers in search for Cobia.
March 10, 2011
The inshore fishing around Sebastian has been good the last few weeks. The Redfish and Trout bite is good on the flats. There are a lot of Bluefish and a few Spanish Mackeral in the inlet as well as Jack Crevalle. Spinner Sharks and Blacktip Sharks are outside the inlet feeding on the bait that is starting to show up.
We have been catching some under-slot Snook around the Mangroves as well as Redfish and some trout also. If you fish the Oyster bars and rockpiles in the Sebastian River and the Inlet, there are a lot of Sheephead, Snapper and Grouper to be caught.
Inshore fishing is getting good and the topwater bite should start soon as the mullet start showing up in the Indian River Lagoon system.
I had the pleasure of fishing with Marshall and his dad from upstate New York along with his grandfather who is a retired colonel from the Army and lives in Orlando.
Fished the Sebastian River looking to get Marshall on a nice Spotted Seatrout and Mangrove Snapper. His grandfather and father caught a few nice trout on jigs and popping corks and Marshall kept getting his bait stolen. I put a TriggerX shrimp under a popping cork and cast his rod a ways out and told him to pop it hard to trigger a bite. Soon after he popped the cork, it went under and he brought in a very nice 22" Spotted Seatrout. We stayed there for a little while and headed to the river to a rockpile and caught some juvenile grouper and Sheephead.
We then moved to a flat and caught some Pompano along with a bunch of Ladyfish and some bluefish. Kept looking for more Pompano and after a little while we moved to the inlet to look for some Flounder and Bluefish. We caught about 20 Bluefish along with 10 or so Jack Crevalle. We weren't able to find any Flounder though. Marshall, his father and Grandfather had a great day on the water and are looking forward to another day out soon!
Had a trip with Mike and Tonya from New York Friday Feb 25th. The first spot we fished was in the Sebastian River for Trout and Snapper. We caught a few Trout and Snapper along with a bunch of Ladyfish. We moved to the flats and caught a few Sheephead along with some Small Grouper and a few Redfish.
We went outside Sebastian Inlet and found some birds diving and threw spoons and jigs to see if we could catch some Mackerel. The fishing under the birds was slow so we moved to the inlet and fished jigs catching some Jack Crevalle along with some Bluefish and Spanish Mackeral and a few more Reds before heading in with a beautiful sunset.
Fished a family from Ohio on an afternoon trip. We headed to a rockpile to try to pick up some Sheephead and Snapper. The bite was slow so we headed to the inlet and fish the outgoing tide along the shoreline and ended getting into the Jack Crevalle. The Jacks have been gone for the winter, but they are back providing a lot of action for anglers.
We ended up catching around 10 Jack Crevalle along with a Spotted Seatrout, another Rat Reds and a bunch of Blufish We then headed to the Sebastian River and looked for more trout. We fished with soft plastic jigs and shrimp under a popping cork and caught around 10 Trout and 10 Ladyfish and a few Mangrove Snapper. Then Pete decided to see how the topwater action was and proceded to catch a bunch of trout to 20" on Rapala Skitterwalk before the sun went down.
February 22, 2011
After a nice run out, we ended up getting 3 Cobia, releasing 2 in short order and keeping one for dinner. We then decided to try for the sailfish, but with the winds building, we changed plans and headed in to see what else we could find. We caught some Kingfish on a rockpile and decided to go close to the beach to see if there were any Cobia on the bait pods.
As we got closer to the beach, there were a lot of birds diving on bait pods so we set up some chum to see what we could find. There were some blacktip or spinner sharks jumping so we knew we were going to have good time on light tackle. In a short while, we had a double. One shark hit a rig with Sufix 832 10lb braid with a wire leader and a live sardine. Thank goodness the other shark hit the heavier setup with 20lb Sufix 832 braid with a 60lb Flourocarbon leader and a VMC circle hook with a live sardine. I never thought we would land the bigger shark due to the short Flouro leader. However, the fish was hooked in the corner of the mouth and the Sufix 832 held strong during the 45min battle. It was a testament to the abrasion resistance of the new Sufix 832 braid and the effectiveness of the circle hooks.
Even though we didn't find our Sailfish and the ocean got rough, we had a great day on the water.
Took Greg from Elite Angler Service in Indialantic, Fl out for an afternoon on the flats and the inlet. We fished flats around Sebastian Inlet and picked up several nice Trout and Bluefish on Jerk Baits and topwater. We caught a few live bait and headed to Sebastian Inlet and caught 2 big reds on live bait and missed a few nice fish.

Fished Sebastian Inlet with Betsy and Doug to look for some big Reds after installing the Lowrance HDS8 on Doug Kaska's Shoalwater. We caught some live bait and headed to the inlet. Fishing was a little slow, but we managed a few Bluefish and one big Redfish.
February 5-6, 2011
On Friday the 5th I had a father and son that wanted to hit the patch reefs and catch some fish for the cooler. We headed south of Sebastian inlet to some patch reefs and caught some Lane Snapper, Black Drum, Porgy, Bluefish, juvenile Grouper and a few grunts.
We decided to move back into the inlet to see if we could get some Mangrove Snapper and Sheephead on a small rockpile. We ended landing a few of each, but not the numbers we were looking for. We then headed to the Sebastian River and ended the day with a few nice trout and some more Snapper.
On the 6th we managed to head out in the afternoon and dodge the rainstorms. Dave and Jillian were in Orlando from the Northeast and wanted to take a break from their golf trip and bend a rod. We hit a few flats in the river and the fishing was slow so we moved to Sebastian River and caught a few trout and Ladyfish. The dolphin were loaded up in the river and the fishing slowed.
We then moved into the inlet to look for Bluefish and Spanish Mackeral. We ended up spending the last 2 hours catching Bluefish and Spanish Mackeral on Rapala Skitterwalks and Hall Em IN topwater lures. As fast as we could get the lures out and in, the fish were on the hook. They had a blast!
February 2, 2011
I had a free afternoon and I asked Captain Doug Kaska to join me for some afternoon fun fishing in Sebastian. We decided to drift a few flats to see if we could find some Trout, Redfish and Snook. The wind was blowing hard and it was rough on the flats so we changed plans and decided to catch some pinfish and go drift Sebastian inlet.
Our instincts were right on because we had teh inlet to our selves for about 2 1/2 hrs and had an excellent time catching Redfish after Redfsih and some Bluefish in between. Every drift was a hookup with several doubles. We decided to quit after about 15 fish and a few misses.
It was one of those days that makes you truly enjoy the fishery and be thankful that we still ahve the ability to get out and have fun on the water.
January 30, 2011
Went out of Sebastian Inlet today with my customers looking for some Cobia. We started by catching some pinfish and pigfish on the flats before we went offshore. While catching the bait, Kody caught a few Sheephead for dinner. The water temps were a little cold and the winds were stronger than forecast in the morning as we headded offshore. We were only able to get one Cobia close to the boat. The fish was between 30-35lbs but we couldn't get it to eat any baits we had.
We decided to drop some bait to the bottom to see what we could drum up. We dropped the pinfish along with some sardines and squid and had non-stop action for several hours.
We caught a bunch of Black Sea Bass as well as a nice flounder and several Grouper. We also broke off several fish. It was something my that the family haven't done before and they had a great time!
January 26, 2011
The inshore fishing has been good with plenty of Sheephead, Speckled Trout and Grouper. We have been getting plenty of Bluefish and Sharks on the beach and in Sebastian Inlet with some Spanish Mackeral mixed in.
January 10, 2011
I had 2 trips on Monday Jan 10 and the weather made the fishing tough. We had 15-20mph winds out of the SE in the morning switching to the SW in the afternoon.
Gregg & Brent from Wisconsin down to do some racing in Sebring and Homestead Speedway and they took a day to visit their parents in East Central Florida. I picked them up along with their dad and we started fishing Sebastian Inlet and Jigged for some Flounder and threw spoons for some Bluefish. We ended up catching a few Bluefish, but the big schools were outside the inlet and it was too rough to get out there. We then moved to the flats and ended up have a good morning catching some Gag Grouper, Sheephead and some more Bluefish. No big fish, but with the front moving in and the wind howling all morning, they caught a lot of fish.
I picked up Steve, Rich and my son Jesse for an afternoon trip and went and jigged up a few Spotted Seatrout in Sebastian Inlet. We then moved to the flats looking for some pompano and caght some small Trout along with some Redfish and more Bluefish. From there we went to the Sebastian River to get out of the wind and ended up catching some really nice Seatrout to 4lbs along with a ton of Ladyfish. We caught a ton of fish today despite the weather.
December 23, 2010
Took out a family on a trip in the Indian River Lagoon near Sebastian today. It was too rough to fish offshore with the 20mph winds so we stayed inshore and caught a bunch of juvenile Grouper on light tackle along with some Sheephead and Snapper.
The winds were blowing hard and it was cold but the girls and their dad had a great time fishing inshore before heading to Disney for Christmas today.
December 10, 2010
It was a beautiful day today in Sebastian. The winds laid down and the sun came out for a trip with Sue from Miami along with Jesse and Doug. We started out drifting the edges of some flats looking for Pompano. The Pompano weren't there but we managed several Bluefish, Ladyfish, Spanish Mackeral and a nice Grouper all on jigs.
We then moved into the inlet and anchored in search of Flounder. With the new moon in a few days, the tides were very strong. The bite was slow for us as the tide was moving in quickly. We caught a few Toadfish pretty quick then it was while for the first Flounder. It was about 3lbs and hit a Mud Minnow. We kept fishing and caught a few more smaller Flounder and a short Gag Grouper on mullet and mud minnows. As the tide slowed we picked up a few short fish on jigs tipped with mullet strips.
It was a good day with a lot of fish caught. We were looking for some bigger Flounder, but we only managed 5 short fish, 2 just over min size and the one 3lb fish.
November 21-27, 2010 Report
The beach fishing has been great since the winds laid down. We are catching a bunch of Spanish Mackerel on Spoons as well as Hall Em In Lures topwater and subsurface plugs. Mixed in with the Spanish Mackerel are Jack Crevalle, Bluefish and sharks. We kept a few Spanish Mackerel for dinner and we kept a few for bait and hooked up with Blacktip Sharks from 3-7 ft long. It was a lot of fun catching the sharks in shallow water and watching them get airborne and pull a lot of drag.
The Flounder bite is on at Sebastian Inlet and the boats have been stacked in the inlet during the holiday weekend. There have been many 5-7 lb fish caught and a lot of smaller fish so far. Most fish are coming an hour before slack tide to an hour after the change. In the evening and at night the Snook and Redfish bite has been good with the bite starting at dusk. Outgoing has produced most of the fish, but incoming has also been productive.
Flats around the inlet and a few spoil islands have been producing some good sized trout and a few slot Redfish. We have been using Trigger X shrimp along with the Mirrolure Lil John to catch decent numbers of fish. We have been catching good sized Pompano on the flats around the inlet also as well as Bluefish, ladyfish and some Mackerel. Inshore rockpiles and docks have been producing juvenile grouper, Snapper & Sheephead using live shrimp, mullet and mud minnows.
November 11, 2010 Report
The Inshore fishing in and around Sebastian Inlet has been good even with the high winds and cooler weather. Since the winds have been high we haven't been able to get offshore or on the beach, we have been concentrating on fishing Sebastian Inlet and the river around the inlet.
At Sebastian Inlet, good numbers of Redfish and Snook have been caught on live Pins, Croakers and Pigs mostly at night. The daytime bite has been hit and miss on the big Reds and Snook. Some days are better than others. The daytime bite has been Flounder. The bigger flounder have been showing up with fish to 8lbs being caught. I haven't heard of any doormats yet though. The Bluefish and Ladyfish are thick in and around the inlet.
Slot sized Redfish are scattered throughout the flats with clean water around the inlet. The water is higher now and the Redfish and Snook are also scattered in the mangrove shorelines. The areas with clean water are also holding decent numbers of Trout. The Trout are out of season, make sure you practice catch and release. We are catching good numbers of Pompano to 5lbs along the deeper flats and in the tideline on incoming tide.
Inshore structure such as docks, rocks and dropoffs are holding good numbers of juvenile Grouper, both Gag and Red. Trolling the channel edges are bringing in some legal sized Grouper. We are also good numbers of Sheephead and Mangrove Snapper in the structure.
October 30, 2010 Report
The fishing remains great in East Central Florida despite the warm weather and lack of rain. Our first strong front should arrive later this week which should turn on the Flounder action inshore as well as the Sailfish bite offshore.
The fishing in and around Sebastian Inlet continues to be good. There have been a few reports of good numbers of Yellowfin Tuna and Dolphin on the east side of the Gulf Stream. The Blackfin Tuna & Bonito bite is still on offshore Sebastian inlet also. We are getting good numbers of Kingfish on the near shore reefs as well as the 90ft bar and 8A reefs out of Canaveral. Since we haven’t had any good strong fronts, the Sailfish are scattered, but not here in big numbers yet. The Grouper and Mangrove Snapper bite continues to be good on near shore and inshore structure. The Spanish Mackeral and Blue fish have been nearshore on bait pods real close to the inlet.
Inshore the inlet is still producing good numbers of oversized Redfish and the Snook bite has been getting better. Best baits are live croakers or Pinfish and Pigfish. Anglers are also getting the Snook and Reds on Bucktail jigs and plugs. Small Flounder continue in the inlet and are hitting jigs on incoming tides, we are still waiting on our first strong front to bring in the bigger fish which should happen this weekend. Bigger Flounder to 6 & 8lbs are being caught in the Indian River Lagoon north of the inlet on jigs and live mullet.
The Trout and Redfish bite has been good on incoming tides where you are finding clean water. Also north of the inlet several miles around Honest Johns fish camp. Ladyfish, Jacks and Bluefish have been hard to get away from to get the better species. There are still small numbers of pompano being caught on jigs but the good numbers haven't moved inshore yet. Grouper, Snapper & Sheephead bite is good inshore on live baits or we can get good grouper trolling the ICW channel.
If you guys want to get in on some good inshore or offshore action, the fishing is great right now. Get down here and give us a call to get you in on the hot Fall action!
October 25, 2010 Report
I've spent more time on the water this month than I have on the computer and have missed putting up some good fishing Reports. Below is my report for the last few weeks of October and the fishing has been great in East Central Florida.
The fishing in and around Sebastian Inlet has been good. Offshore on "The Reel Deal" we have been loading up on Blackfin Tuna the last few trips. We have also been catching good sized Bonito as us Florida guys call them. Sailfish are scattered, but not here in big numbers yet. The Sailfish bite should pick up after a few good fronts. The bite for Dolphin has been hit or miss and the Grouper and Mangrove Snapper bite has been getting good on nearshore and inshore structure. The Spanish Mackeral and Blue fish have been nearshore on bait pods real close to the inlet. There are also some Bonito in the mix feeding on the same baitfish.
Inshore the inlet has been producing good numbers of oversized Redfish and decent numbers of Snook. Best baits are live croakers or Pinfish and Pigfish. Anglers are also getting the Snook and Reds on Bucktail jigs and plugs. Small Flounder are showing up in the inlet and are hitting jigs on incoming tides, we need a good front to bring in the bigger fish.
The trout and Redfish bite has been good on incoming tides where you are finding clean water. Ladyfish, Jacks and Bluefish have been hard to get away from to get the better species. The fish are all eating artificials such as the Hall Em In Lures B29 & Bustin Bob topwater and the Rapala Skitterwalks. We have been using a pattern that mimicks mullet and also a redfish pattern on the skitterwalks. There are some pompano being caught on jigs but the good numbers haven't moved inshore yet. Grouper and Snapper bite is good inshore on live baits or we can get good grouper trolling the ICW channel.

October 4, 2010 Report
The fishing in the Indian River has slowed down a bit since the front last week. The Trout, Jacks and ladyfish have still been active, but the Redfish bite has slowed on artificial baits. Pinfish and finger mullet are the key to get the Reds to bite inshore.
I have been spending some time fishing Honest John’s canals along with Turkey Creek & Sebastian River. The tarpon are in the freshwater rivers and creeks around the inlet. The fish we have been catching are between 20-80lbs depending on where we are fishing.
The Reds and Snook have also been very active at the inlet on Croakers, Pinfish and Mullet. Incoming has been yielding slot-sized Reds and outgoing there has been a lot of over slot Reds, Snook and Tarpon especially in the evening bite. The boat traffic has been busy at the inlet drifting and at the jetties, you must be patient and work with the flow if you want to be successful.
September 28, 2010 Report
The Inshore fishing in and around Sebastian Inlet has been great. We have been catching good numbers of slot sized Redfish every day from 22"-27" all on artificial baits. They are hitting a variety of baits from gold spoons, Rapala & Mirrodine subsurface baits, Hall Em In Lure topwaters and TriggerX shrimp on a popping cork. Best bite has been till around 9:00am or until someone spooks the schools by running through the middle of the fish. Which has been happening a lot lately.
We have been catching plenty of undersized and slot sized Trout all on artificial baits. They are also hitting a variety of baits with the Hall Em In topwater plugs producing well early then switching to Rapala subsurface baits as the sun gets higher. We have also been catching good numbers of Trout with TriggerX shrimp on a popping cork.
Schools of jacks in the 3-5 lb range mixed with sharks have been chasing mullet schools and have been tearing up the baits. Once you get into a school of the jacks, it is hard to leave them. They are agressive and very fun to catch and its not hard to land 20 or more from each school. Some of my anglers are casting to the shcools and trying to get the plugs away from them just to watch a bunch of fish chase it and crash the plugs. It is a very cool sight to see.
We have also been catching good numbers of Bluefish and Ladyfish for a lot of action on the water. Pompano are skipping in some of the deeper flats but we have only caught a few in the last week.
If you are after overslot Reds and Snook, the inlet is loaded and we can get them on live Pinfish, Pigfish and Croakers or Bucktails day and night.
Sept 1, 2010 Report
On a few trips offshore, we loaded up with Sharks, Kingfish, Barracuda and Bonito while fishing live bait. We did manage to hook a few dolphin, but didn’t land any.
The beach fishing has been good the last week. Plenty of Sharks, Tarpon and Kingfish are mixed in with the bait pods along with some Cobia mixed in. We also caught a few Dolphin 100yds off the beach on Saturday morning while catching bait. They were chasing bait when we got out there and a school of about 10-15 fish swam up to the boat. We hooked 4 and boated 2 of the fish about 8-10lbs. Got back into the inlet and managed to catch a bunch of Jacks later that morning.
August 2010 Report
Inshore fishing is good early with Trout and Redfish on the flats early moving to the deeper water later in the morning. Use Topwater or sub-surface baits early along with soft plastics. The early bite shuts down around 8:00am, then you must go to deeper water and live bait is best later in the morning. There have been decent numbers of Tarpon north of the inlet in the river and up in the Sebastian river with live mullet being the best bait.
The water in the inlet and nearshore has been cleaner than I have ever seen it in my life, with visibility top to bottom in 30+ft of water.
Fishing in the inlet and nearshore is red hot now with all of the bait on the beaches. The Reds and Snook are in the inlet with the best baits are bucktails and live Croakers at night. It has been a little slow in the day with a lot of boat traffic, but the best bet is live croakers during the day. There have also been small schools of big Redfish Roaming the beaches from Melbourne Beach to Sebastian. Early in the week we had cold water along with big schools with hundreds of Jacks roaming the beach North and South of the inlet. Most of the fish are around 10lbs however we have been catching Jacks to 35lbs this week. We have also been catching a lot of kings around the bait pods. We have also been catching a lot of Bonito and Barracuda and spotted a few Cobia that weren’t interested in our baits.
